I haven't been to Union Valley lake in years and decided to go try my luck with my 5wt fly rod in a remote location on the lake early in the morning. Well the first cast was aimed at some rocks on the otherside of this cove. I started to strip the line when all of a sudden I felt a strong pull, so I pulled back when the fish swam right passed me and all I saw was something large. We swam against the current of the powerhouse and when I finally go him subdued, it was a 19" 5lb smallmouth. My heart was racing as I new there where trout in front of me, but never expected this.
